Music Students Visit 'Liverpool Sound City 2011'

Kidderminster College Music students had a lesson with a difference when they visited one of the world’s most legendary music cities, Liverpool, on 19th May.

‘Liverpool Sound City’ (LSC) has established itself as one of the UK’s most creative and innovative city centre events, and the students, aspiring for careers in the music industry, were there to participate in its international music business conference, where they had the opportunity to rub shoulders with agents, record labels, managers and publishers.

The conference featured panels with seasoned veterans and younger voices, as well as presenting opportunities to listen to legendary keynote speakers and special guests. One of the most popular debates with the students proved to be Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde and Midlake's Eric Nichelson, discussing the working mechanics and dynamics of band and label, and potential trials and tribulations which may ensue.

Lecturer Scott Garrett, commented, ‘The LSC is a fantastic event dedicated to helping the creative industry grow. It offers fantastic opportunities for networking, education and skills development and we make sure our students experience it and are part of it every year – it’s invaluable to them!’
